Why spend more for Swarovski? First and foremost Swarovski is unsurpassed in quality, clarity and shine when it comes to crystals. I can set two beads side by side one Swarovski and one another brand and Swarovski literally outshines them all!
History of Swarovski and why these crystals literally outshine the others!
Daniel Swarovski was the son of a glass cutter in Bohemian, modern day Czech Republic. He learned his manual glass cutting skills rom is father. Daniel at the age of 30, in 1892 invented a state-of-the-art machine that with unparalleled precision and speed cut crystals, prior to that they were cut manually.
Mr. Swarovski had a dream of creating “diamonds” for everyone. He founded the Swarovski Company in 1895.
A fun fact, in the movie “Diamonds Are A Girls Best Friend”, starring Marilyn Monroe, she is actually wearing Swarovski Crystals and not diamonds at all! When Ms. Monroe sings Happy Birthday Mr. President to John F. Kennedy the gown she is wearing is adorned with thousands of Swarovski crystals.
The year of 1965 is when Swarovski starting creating components for chandeliers and in 1977 the division of Swarovski Strass was created for the chandelier industry (what I use prisms for).
The Xilion Cut, a new Swarovski development in crystal stones which sparkles with supreme radiance was developed in 2004.
Swarovski Crystals have been used in the backdrop curtain at the Oscars. Swarovski has collaborated with set design for Bond, Downtown Abbey and Broadway productions.
The end of a dazzling era of 55 years occurred when Swarovski announced in October of 2020 that they have terminated production of their beloved, brilliant, unsurpassed crystal lighting components. You will still find a limited line of stones and flat backs for the fashion and jewelry industry.
CAUTION The outer ring is made of 16 gage wire and will bend if you push on it but can easily be reshaped back into a circle.
PLEASE NOTE: These are images on GLASS, a transparent medium, the intensity of the color will change with the amount and type of lighting shining behind it and background. Like a lampshade this SUNCATCHER looks best with natural light shining through it. These are not massed produced, I make these to order and there will be slight differences in each one.
The butterfly is the Celtic Zodiac for those born between September 30th thru October 27th. Those born under this sign are said to be extremely social hence the phrase, “Social Butterfly”. They are known to have a joyful personality and a cheery disposition. They are intuitively empathetic and people are drawn to their positive aura.
The Mandarin Chinese word for butterfly is "hu-tieh". "Tieh" means "70 years", therefore butterflies have become a symbol for a long life.
If a butterfly crosses your path, it means good luck.
In the Japanese culture butterflies are thought to be representative of young maidens and marital bliss.
In ancient Greek the word for butterfly is "Psyche", which translated means "soul". Psyche is the Greek Goddess of souls.
Butterflies also symbolize: Resurrection, Transition, Celebration, Lightness, Time and Soul.
Symmetry is another manifestation of the balance of Yin and Yang, of the unimpeded flow of ch'i.
My designs start with one of my photographs. I am compelled to immortalize and transform Mother Nature’s awesome creations into images of mesmerizing symmetry through kaleidoscope photo art.
I take photos that have varying texture, shapes and colors, digitally crop different angles and reassemble the crops together to create a seamless kaleidoscope photo. One photo can create numerous kaleidoscopes because each cut creates a different geometrical pattern. The finished product can create a pattern that is difficult to recognize the original photo or can enhance the subject of the original photo. This is all done freehand! This is not a result of an automatic program. Automatic programs will distort the subject. My process is unique as it allows me to isolate my subject and kaleidoscope everything else around it. Why you ask? Why turn my photography into kaleidoscope designs? Good question....the only explanation I have is this is what I see...it is simply my twisted imagination!
Oh yes one other thing.....if you run across a math teacher from Michigan...please oh please don’t tell him or her what I am doing. He or she might be one of my former teachers. If they knew what I was doing I would not live it down...you see...I HATE MATH! I pouted, cried and whined all through school about math...and what I do is basic geometry. I would never hear the end of “I told you so” or “See I knew if you set your mind to it you would learn math”. Let’s keep this my little secret
